Job Description

A UK focused oil exploration Company targeting the discovery of oil & gas offshore United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) seeks a motivated Company Accountant to perform the varied day-to-day financial tasks required of a small but energetic company from initial bookkeeping through to the preparation of financial accounts and reports for board and management meetings. Applicants are invited, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas industry and have a sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals. Training and guidance will be provided in the preparation, control and reporting requirements to the larger corporate structure, as required. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic and young oil exploration Company that is preparing to be operator of their first drilling and to become involved in financial activities across the group. It is an ideal role for a candidate with a good broad accounting background looking to take on more responsibility and assist in the further development of an oil player on the threshold of expansion.

The Company is part of a Group with offshore oil and gas exploration interests in UK, Norway, Namibia, Ireland, Indonesia and Brazil. The Group has grown significantly in recent years, through leveraging its expertise and leading edge technology as it aims to identify, de-risk and ultimately monetise material hydrocarbons.

In this role, you will familiarise yourself with all the players, become knowledgeable in the day-to-day business practices and offer support and guidance in relation to financial matters. You will have a dual reporting role into the MD and the Financial Director. Whilst your primary focus will be on the UK operating company, you will be exposed and expected to contribute towards some of the other activities of the group.

Salary: £45K-£60K

Job Responsibilities: Responsibilities: Reporting to Company Managing Director and Financial Director this role encompasses many functions including: • Become familiar with the Company’s licence interests, practices and processes. • Manage all day to day financial affairs including:  Complete Accounts Payable function  Banking, cash reporting and management  Control, validation and payment of Expenses  Submitting quarterly VAT returns  Joint Venture accounting, including monitoring licence costs, liaising with JV partners, preparation of invoices  Cost control for drilling, licence and administrative expenditure  Budgetary control and variance analysis  Monthly accounts preparation, closing of periodic group reporting  Preparation of ad hoc management reports & information  Board reporting and support  Budgeting & forecasting (both corporate and project level)  Audit (statutory & JV)  Statutory accounts • Working with the Group parent company, you will assist with the core accounting processes and the implementation of a new reporting system. • Be proactive in understanding all aspects of the business and play a key role in supporting the local management team. • Be actively involved in preparation/support for Company Board meetings and also provide financial support to the Company’s business development activities. • The Group has recently rolled out “SunSystems” (i.e. cloud based financial accounting solution) in an implementation tailored to the oil industry and reporting requirements of the Group. While the initial focus will be on the familiarisation, this is an excellent opportunity to learn the system from the start so that key reports are produced efficiently and the system used widely and willingly. • As required, contribute towards some of the other activities of the Group. • Provide financial reports to all stakeholders across the Company and Group in a professional and timely manner. You will be actively involved across all aspects of the business and will work alongside key players across the Group. Required Experience & Qualifications: Preferences: The successful candidate will have: • An accounting qualification desired but the key is the ability to demonstrate your proven accounting expertise. • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas industry essential. • Experience working with an Operator working in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) advantageous. However, the understanding of financial considerations, practices and regulations involved in oil company operations and the understanding of oil and gas terminology is key. • Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals essential (operations, regulations/compliance, controls...). • Previous experience in the preparation and control of management reports is advantageous but training and support will be provided. • Experience in liaising and reporting across a Group desired but again training and support provided. • Sound knowledge of Microsoft excel essential. • Experience using cloud based financial accounting solutions desired. • Ability to build and sustain relationships at all levels within the Company and across the Group, gaining respect, engagement and commitment to ideas and proposals. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate ideas coherently across different cultures in the Group. • Strong appreciation of stakeholder relationship management - be diplomatic, professional and timely in reporting all financial related matters. • Confident, enthusiastic and persuasive with the drive and commitment for success.

Other Information: Package: An attractive salary of between £45K - £60K is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
